In Armenia, 50 environmental groups protest against building dolphinarium in Yerevan park

International and Armenian public ecological organization demand from city authorities of Yerevan and Armenian leaders to stop construction of dolphinarium in the Komitas Park.

Grayr Savzyan, head of the environmental organization "Ekodar", said that 50 environmental organizations sent a letter to the President, Prime Minister, Minister of Nature Protection of Armenia and Yerevan Mayor with a demand to immediately stop the construction of the dolphinarium.

Silva Adamyan, chair of the NGO "Centre of Birdwatchers", said that local environmentalists failed to receive any response from the Mayoralty to the request to present all the documents to confirm the legality of construction of the dolphinarium.

"We can't ensure the necessary climatic conditions and diet for dolphins. The animals are accustomed to the countries, where there is sea or ocean, with very high humidity; we have nothing of the kind. How can we keep these animals?" Silva Adamyan asked.

According to the press service of the Yerevan Mayoralty "the construction of dolphinarium is aimed to restore the park, which is in miserable condition, and, thus, to protect the park from disparate buildings and lawlessness."
