Russian consul meets his fellow-countrymen accused of spying in Georgia

On Monday, November 22, Andrei Smaga, head of the section of Russia's interests at the Swiss Embassy in Georgia, visited the Russian citizens accused of espionage. Neither the Russian nor the Georgian parties make any comments on the meeting.

On November 22, the Georgian party said that it had allowed the head of the section of Russian interests at the Swiss Embassy in Georgia to meet the four Russian citizens. On November 18, Alexei Sazonov, Deputy Head of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, accused Georgia of not allowing the Russian consul to meet the Russians suspected of espionage.

Today, the fact of Russian consul's meeting with Russian citizens was confirmed by Nino Kalandadze, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, who added that "she could add nothing more," the IA "News-Georgia" reports.

Consul Andrei Smaga refrained from comments, saying that the Russian Foreign Ministry can answer all the questions, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
