Former Mufti of North Ossetia Evteev leaves Russia

Ali-Hadji Evteev, ex-Mufti of North Ossetia, who resigned after his scandalous interview about his vision of Islam, has left Russia, as reported on November 12 by a source from the Ministry for Nationalities of North Ossetia.

In his scandalous interview, which was published in May by one of Internet editions, Evteev confessed that he "had been very radical and went to take lessons from Khahttab"; moreover, he criticized Orthodox clergy. He later apologized for his remarks against the Russian Orthodox Church.

According to the source, after his departure from Russia, Evteev will continue studies at the Islamic University in Saudi Arabia. Together with the former Mufti, his family has left, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
