Human rights activist Basmanov complains of improper treatment in militia department of Sochi

Sergey Basmanov, Director of human rights center "Defense of Citizens' Rights and Interests" in Sochi, who had formerly reported threats against him declared that the personnel of law enforcement bodies have treated him improperly.

The human rights activist told a reporter of "Caucasian Knot" that when he came to Khosta department at Mastesta on November, 10, where he had been planning to "inquire on the results of regarding his statements of threats against him and submit an additional statement" he came across malevolent attitude of the militiamen.

In particular, the duty officer who met the human rights activist instead of receiving his statement called to the control pin and reprimanded the serviceman who had let Basmanov pass into the office. According to the human rights activist, talking to the man he called him "A shaggy-haired one in spectacles".

"Have you registered him? Why didn't you report the name of the one coming here? Do you let anybody pass? Don't you know he is a well-known gangster who will now start exploding and setting us on fire? Now run and take the shaggy-haired quickly", the human rights activist quoted the duty officer's words.

"There is a criminal case against him and he tried to inspect our standby unit", Basmanov continued quoting the militiaman's speech.

According to Basmanov, another militia officer, a captain, said in reply that the human rights activist "is rehabilitated, the item is deleted from the agenda". "OK, see you later, it's a small world", the duty officer answered.

The human rights activist said that after all these he went out of the office leaving a document of registration of his statement. "I considered it right and proper to leave the Department of Interior Affairs freely. When I was driving up to my house the same major who refused to introduce himself phoned me and demanded that I should return and take back the notice coupon of acceptance of my statement", Basmanov continued. He said he did not go back to the militia office "out of fear for my live and health".

In the Department of Interior Affairs of Khosta district of Sochi the reporter of "Caucasian Knot" was told that such an incident could hardly take place. "Our practice is well established, we treat the citizens correctly and politely, so anything of the kind is ruled out", the officer on duty said explaining that the personnel of the office knew Basmanov well for he had come to submit complaints several times. The personnel of the Department refused to inform which officer was on the operative duty on November, 10, when according to Basmanov the incident took place.

We will remind that the human rights activist had formerly stated that he was receiving messages of threat on his mobile.
