"Beslan Mothers" against repairs in School No. 1

Today, the members of the organization named "Beslan Mothers" have expressed their protest against the repair and construction works carried out in School No. 1, which was attacked by terrorists in September 2004.

The protesters assert that within the last six years they are constantly facing "lies of the authorities who are trying to get rid of the terror act traces and, thus, erase the memory on its victims."

According to the "Beslan Mothers", they were "deceived, and the works are carried out not towards conservation but towards restoration of the school building."

The officials, who came to meet the protesters - Valentin Bazrov, Deputy Prime Minister, and Akhsarbek Khodov, Minister of Construction and Architecture, promised to preserve the appearance of the building as it was after the assault on September 3, 2004.

According to Mr Khodov, "it cannot be left as it is; there is a danger of collapse; and people may perish." "Therefore, it was decided to strengthen certain bearing elements. This is being done. All other work will continue as it was adopted in the concept," he said.

Ella Kesaeva, leader of the "Voice of Beslan", said that she supported the reconstruction project, proposed by the officials, the "Echo of the Caucasus" writes.
