Abkhazian GPO: fire in Sukhumi hospital stems from broken safety regulations

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Abkhazia is clearing out the reason of the fire that burst out in the Sukhumi Clinical Hospital on November 9 and caused human deaths. According to GPO officials, the ignition was a result of breaching fire safety regulations.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that as a result of the fire in the urology ward of the clinical hospital, three persons were lost.

According to the GPO spokesman, if not for the well-concerted actions of fire-fighters and militiamen, who managed to localize the fire and evacuate the patients, human losses could have been much higher.

In the context of the hospital fire, the government instructed the relevant structures to check the observance of fire safety regulations all over the country. For this purpose, a special commission was set up.

The Public Prosecutor of Abkhazia Safarbey Mikanba took the investigation of the fire under his personal control.
