In Armenia, experts find newly elected US Congress to be pro-Armenian

Experts believe that the totals of the November 2 midterm US Congress elections will be positive for Armenia: more than 90 percent of the candidates supported by Armenian community in the USA were elected to the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by David Petrosyan, political observer of the "Noyan Tapan" News Agency, that the Armenian Diaspora supports candidates based not on their party affiliation, but on their attitude to the issues of Armenians' concern, starting from the recognition of genocide in the Ottoman Empire and ending with the amount of US Govt's financial aid intended for Armenia.

Richard Giragosyan, Director of the Armenian Centre for National and Strategic Studies and a member of the Armenian Diaspora, has noted that the Republicans' victory increased the chances of adopting the resolution on the Armenian genocide. According to his opinion, the adoption of this document will be discussed by the renovated Congress already in January 2011.

A similar viewpoint was expressed by Kiro Manoyan, official in charge for political matters of the Bureau of ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Front) "Dashnaktsutyun", head of the office "Ai Data" and a representative of the Armenian Diaspora in Canada. According to his story, the counterbalances of the US administration in the House of Representatives have become much weaker; and the outcomes will create new opportunities for Armenian lobbyists.
