In Krasnodar, businessman Yevgeny Konovalov released from SIZO on arrival of anti-corruption commission

In the evening on October 26, businessman Yevgeny Konovalov, one of the defendants in the resonant case of the Limited Liability Company (LLC) "Promautomatika Invest" was released from the Krasnodar SIZO (pre-trial prison) on recognizance not to leave.

As previously reported by the "Caucasian Knot", at the last court session on this criminal case on October 19, Judge Roman Shakitsko rejected the defence's petition to change Konovalov's custody for some other freedom restriction measure.

Yesterday, on October 26, experts of the Anticorruption Mobile Reception Office from Moscow, invited by a group of civil activists, headed by Galina, Yevgeny's wife, arrived in Krasnodar. A few minutes before the press conference, given by the visiting advocates for local media, it became known that the businessman had been released on recognizance not to leave.

According to his advocate, the release decision was signed back on October 20 but became known only on October 26. Yesterday evening, around 7:00 p.m. Moscow time, Yevgeny Konovalov was released.

The businessman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he is sure that the criminal case against him and the second defendant in the case - Sergey Kolesnikov - was completely fabricated with the aim of raider capturing the Konovalovs family business.

Today, Yevgeny Konovalov visited the above Moscow anticorruption experts. He told them about the scheme of raiders' capture of his family business, about the conditions in the SIZO and corruption in investigatory bodies, prosecutor's office and the court; he also presented his arguments about the falsified criminal case against him and Kolesnikov.

On October 26-29 Moscow experts are receiving citizens in Krasnodar within the project "Mobile Anticorruption Reception Office" on facts of corruption, raiders' attacks and falsification of criminal cases. According to Dmitri Firsov, the decision to meet residents of the Krasnodar Territory within the action "Clean Hands" was made because this region is listed among five most corrupt ones.
