Armenia: WWF to protect brown bears

In the south of Armenia, employees of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) plan to start night on duty shifts near the gardens, where brown bears come for nutrition. This was announced by the PR Department of the WWF.

From September on, the Syunik Region of the country sees frequent invasions of bears into fruit gardens, where they eat grapes, figs and pomegranates and damage shrubs and trees. The greatest damage was caused by bears to villagers from Nrnadzor, Shvanidzor and Alvank.

To find the way out, the Armenian branch of the WWF has moved an initiative, within the mission "Let us live in harmony with nature", to organize, with participation of local residents and employees of the national park "Arevik", night watch shifts in order to protect bears and ensure safety of fruit plants, the IA "News-Armenia" reports.

Let us note here that this year the Fund of Protected Areas of the Caucasus has allocated 500,000 US dollars to improve the protection level of the Khosrov Reserve, located in the Ararat Region in the south of Armenia and populated by brown bears.
