Ex-deputy of the Ministry of Education in Georgia is accused of corruption

The personnel of the Investigation department of Head Public prosecutor's office of Georgia detained Alexander Chikvaidze, Ex-deputy Minister of Education and Science, on accusation of abuse of power and bribery.

Press service of Georgian Public prosecutor's office reports there is a suspicion that the ex-deputy when holding the office at the Ministry of education through the medium of Tsira Javakhishvili, his acquaintance, received a bribe of forty thousand lari from Zurab Tsimakuridze, Director of "Vlazi" Ltd. and without tendering confirmed a contract for rehabilitation of a school in the village of Shamgoni, Zugdidi destrict.

According to the investigators' data, the Director of "Vlazi" misappropriated 500 thousand lari out of 700 allotted for rehabilitation of the school, "Georgia Online" reports.

The investigation is also informed that Alexander Chikvaidze confirmed one more contract at a cost of 1,8 million lari without tendering with "Uni Building" company registered as property of his son-in-law Elguju Chkikidze on building schools in the village of Misaktsieli, Mtsheta dfistrict, Garbadan and Senak districts. Elguju Chkikidze is accused of misappropriation of 600 thousand lari out of the received sum. Among other figurants of the case there is Tengiz Gogoberidze, Deputy Head of the Department of preservation of the environment of Ajar autonomous republic, "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

Public prosecutor's office reports that all the figurants of the cases have been detained. Alexander Chikvaidze is charged with abuse of power according to clauses 338, 332 of Criminal code of Georgia. In case if his guilt is proven he may get a penalty of 11 years of imprisonment.
