Zakaev dismissed the Government of self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria

Ahmed Zakaev, Head of the self-proclaimed Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (CRI), has resolved to stop the activities of this Government and declared that he and his adherents acknowledged "State Committee of Defense - Shura Majlis" headed by Khusein Gakaev the supreme governing body of Ichkeria "for the war period".

Khusein Gakaev is a new leader of Chechen gunmen. They have elected him their amir. Gakaev and several more amirs of the Caucasus Emirate have formerly publicly withdrawn their oath to Dokku Umarov, leader of the Emirate.

Zakaev explained his decision of holding up the activities of the Government of CRI by a change in the attitude of minds among the Chechen armed underground. "We have done it because we consider that the Chechen fighters have dissociated from this mythical formation called "Emirate" and we intend to go back to the legal framework of Ichkeria", "Commersant" newspaper quotes Zakaev.

Zakaev and his adherents are sure that election of a new leader by the armed underground of Chechnya will promote turning the situation in the republic back to the legal forms", "Caucasus Online" web-site writes.
