Georgia adopts amendments to Constitution restricting President's powers
At their sitting, the MPs voted 125:4 for the second reading of the new Constitution draft. The bill has no words that President is the head of the state.
Under the amendments, the powers of the president will not include the right to legislative initiative; the influence on foreign policy and armed forces is restricted.
Since December 13, 2013, when the new wording of the Constitution is enacted, the President of Georgia will have no right to move proposals on amending the Constitution and other laws. These powers are vested to Prime Minister.
