Gilauri: Georgia would not support Russia's accession to WTO
As stated by Georgian Prime Minister Nikoloz Gilauri, his country will not vote for Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), unless Russia allows Georgian customs officers to work in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"We stand for Russia's joining the WTO under the rules of this organization," Mr Gilauri said in his interview to the Associated Press and added that in line with the WTO regulations the border territories of two countries shall be controlled by both parties.
On October 1, 2010, Russian and US Presidents Dmitri Medvedev and Barack Obama confirmed in a telephone conversation the completion of bilateral negotiations on Russia's accession to the WTO. The next rounds of talks on the topic will take place in Geneva on October 25 and December 5 this year.
