Krasnodar: suspect of spreading rumours about terror acts detected

Law enforcers of the Krasnodar Territory have revealed a person who spread of rumours about terror acts to be committed in Krasnodar on the Day of the City - September 25. It is Nikolai Evenko, 27, a former leading specialist of the Municipal Institution "City Bureau of Outdoor Advertising and Information".

"It was established in the course of operative-search actions that the suspect had sent 105 SMS-messages to different people asking them not to appear in public places, because he had information about possible terror acts," said Ilya Shakalov, head of the press service of the Krasnodar UVD (Interior Department).

He has added that the suspect is now checked; he was not detained.

Initially, rumours about terror acts appeared in Armavir. It was reported that a coffin with carnations was found in the city park, accompanied by a note that the number of casualties during the Day of the City would be equal to the number of flowers. Later, this information was refuted by law enforcement bodies. Then, similar rumours circulated in Krasnodar, where they also were not confirmed, as the "Yuga.ru" reports.

"Back on Friday, September 24, I found an enormous amount of information on the Internet about possible terror acts in Krasnodar," said Nikolai Evenko. "On Saturday, at my work I was on duty in the city; and since the situation was heated by the 'hearsay' radio, I decided to send out warning to my friends and acquaintances. I wouldn't say that I - a grown-up man - believed in the allegedly found coffin with carnations, but when such talks are heard at every corner, you willy-nilly start worrying about the safety of your relatives and friends."

"On Sunday, September 26, militiamen appeared and took me to the police station, where I was shown a printout of the messages sent from my mobile phone; then, I wrote an explanation," the suspect told the Internet edition "Yugopolis".
