Adherents of renaming Johjar Dudaev street in Latvia won a lawsuit against Riga municipal Duma
Russian-speaking oppositional party "For human rights in integrated Latvia" (FHRIL) won a lawsuit in the Administrative district court against Riga municipal Duma which had forbidden a piquet of the adherents of renaming Johar Dudaev street.
The Court acknowledged illegitimate the prohibition of holding a piquet "For Riga without Dudaev" in the morning of August, 25. The piquet had been planned by members of FHRIL near the building of Riga municipal Duma and timed to a visit of the delegation of Moscow mayor's office to Riga.
"Caucasian Knot" has already reported that the piquet was broken up by the municipal police as an unauthorized one, hardy had about two tens residents of the capital gathered at the place.
The court found a number of unlawful features in the decision of prohibition of the piquet. The judges expressed an opinion that there had been no explanation on which specific events and in what way the piquet could interfere with. Besides, the court stated that the Duma of the capital had not informed the declarant of the piquet about its prohibition in due time, i.e. six hours before, ITAR-TASS reports.
