At that moment two unknown persons in masks and camouflage entered the house. One of them asked: "Who is Patimat Magomedova?" The woman gave some other name. Then one of the gunmen took her neighbour out, while the other dialled the number of Magomedova's mobile phone. When the phone rang in her hands, the woman was shot dead. To the sound of the shots Patimat's son of 18 ran into the room. The attackers locked him in the adjacent premise.

According to the neighbours, Patimat Magomedova begged the criminals not to kill her, offering to take away everything valuable that was in the houses, but she was told to that: "We have been long paid for you."

According to the source of the "Caucasian Knot", schoolmistress Magomedova received repeated threats because of her hard line on wearing hijabs. Besides, unknown persons kept coming to school demanding to ban physical culture lessons with girls.
