Russian authorities promise to solve all Sochi ecological problems by 2012

As stated today by Dmitri Kozak, Vice-Premier of Russia, at the sitting of the interdepartmental commission for preparing the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, held within the International Investment Forum "Sochi-2010", by 2012, Sochi will forget about problems in its ecology.

"By 2012, the environmental problems of Sochi, which accumulated for decades, will be solved in the course of preparations for the Olympiad. The number of purification facilities will triple, and we'll forget about this nightmare," Mr Kozak has promised.

He has emphasized the role of investors in implementing the Olympic project. "Investors bear more than a half out of 185 billion roubles of total costs on construction of sporting and infrastructural objects of the Olympiad. The efficient marketing programme of the organizing committee "Sochi-2014" has allowed to exclude any state expenditures on carrying out the Games," the ITAR-TASS quotes Dmitri Kozak as saying.

Dmitri Chernyshenko, president of the organizing committee "Sochi-2014", has emphasized that one of the major tasks at erecting Olympic objects is preservation of the unique region's nature, which will be achieved through application of the so-called "green standards", the RIA "Novosti" reports.
