Possible burial of victims of political repressions found in Volgograd
On August 27, in central Volgograd, a team of workers laying underground utilities came across a mass grave. Supposedly, it contains remains of victims of political repressions.
Human remains were found near "Oktiabrskaya" Hotel in the depth of about three meters. The experts, who arrived to the place, ascertained that the mass burial was several decades old.
"Under one of the versions, prisoners of concentration camps could have been buried there," a source in law enforcement bodies of Volgograd told the "Life News". "Most probably, they died from strong exhaustion. We've made this conclusion after having visually examined the remains, which have no damages on them."
Local historians have already reported: once the NKVD (People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs) building was located there, in the basement of which something like a concentration camp for repressed persons was located. Quite probably, their remains were found by the workers, the "First Newspaper in Volgograd" writes.
