Another monument to General Yermolov erected in Stavropol Territory
Today, in Pyatigorsk (Stavropol Territory), a monument to General Alexei Yermolov was opened.
"Yermolov was one of those commanders, who not only waged war in the Caucasus, but also ran dialogue with local residents. In this dialogue, he reached brilliant results, not less than in the battlefield," said Sergey Ushakov, deputy chairman of the government of the Stavropol Territory.
The monument is installed in the central part of the capital of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), opposite the Lermontov house-museum, the "Interfax" reports.
In October 2008, another monument to General Yermolov was erected in the city of Mineralnue Vody of the Stavropol Territory. In the opinion of Shamsail Saraliev, minister for foreign relations, national policy, press and information of Chechnya, opening of the monument to Yermolov in Mineralnue Vody is an act of disrespect for the Caucasian nations, who had experienced "Yermolov's genocide policy."
