Armenia drafts bill on invalids' rights

As explained by Asmik Khachatryan, head of the PR division of the Ministry of Labour and Social Matters, the new law, prepared in Armenia, will guarantee protection of rights of people with limited capabilities.

"Both our Ministry and all the organizations working in this sphere are involved in the bill drafting process," she said.

The law on invalids' rights was initiated after Armenia's accession to the Convention of the United Nations on Invalids' Rights, which was adopted on December 13, 2006, and enacted on May 3, 2008. In Armenia, the Convention was ratified on May 17, 2010.

Susanna Tadevosyan, head of the public organization "Bridge of Hope", has noted that the law draft assumes protection of invalids' rights and social integration of them, the "News-Armenia" reports.

Earlier, activists of the public organization "Unison" noted that invalids in Armenia have many painful problems. In particular, they experience discrimination at employment - employers just would not hire them, irrespective of their knowledge and skills. Also, in the opinion of the activists, invalids shall enjoy equal chances with other people in receiving education, so that they could compete on equal terms at employment.
