Officer suspected of torturing soldiers is arrested, Armenian media report
Today, a number of Armenian mass media have published reports that the officer, whose mockeries at soldiers had been videoed and placed on the Internet on September 11, was identified and detained. However, his name is not disclosed yet, while the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia neither confirms nor refutes the information.
According to this information, the videoed incident is investigated by the National Security Service (NSS) and the Military Police (MP) of Armenia. Employees of the latter managed to find the officer, whose mockeries at two young soldiers had been videoed, bring him to law enforcement bodies.
Currently, the detainee is kept in one of investigatory isolation facilities; and it is not known whether he was brought to Yerevan. According to non-confirmed data, he is a deputy battalion commander of the military unit "Yekhnikner" deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh, a major by his service rank. Now, the circle of those guilty is clarified; and within the next few days the MoD plans to make an official statement.
