ECtHR starts considering "Sarkisyan versus Azerbaijan" case

On September 15, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) began considering the claim lodged by citizen of Armenia Minas Sarkisyan against Azerbaijan. The applicant states violation of his civil rights during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Mr Sarkisyan defends his right to protect property and the right to respect of private and family life, freedom of thought, conscience and religion. He finds the Azerbaijani authorities guilty of depriving him of his property, violent deportation and discrimination of Armenians and desecration of Armenian monuments and cemeteries.

Minas Sarkisyan has already died, and his daughter is presenting the claim at the ECtHR.
