Trial of rights defender Oleg Orlov to start in Moscow

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, on September 13 a court session will take place in Moscow on the criminal case against Oleg Orlov, Chairman of the Board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

The charges of slandering President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov were presented to Oleg Orlov on July 6, 2010, after he announced Kadyrov to be responsible for the death of Natalia Estemirova, an employee of the HRC "Memorial" in Chechnya. According to the Russian legislation, under the article dealing with slander, Orlov is under threat of up to three years of imprisonment.

Ramzan Kadyrov claims a refutation of the accusations against him to be placed in the official website of the "Memorial" and payment of compensation of his moral harm.

According to Mr Orlov, he had said about "social-political" not criminal liability of the head of the republic for the murder of human rights activist Natalia Estemirova.
