Yerevan mayoralty again bans oppositional action in Freedom Square

On September 9, the mayoralty of the capital of Armenia rejected the notification submitted by the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) about a rally to be held on September 24 in Freedom Square.

"The rally is logically impossible, as it will interfere with the earlier planned event," Gagik Bagdasaryan, head of the organizational department of the mayoralty of Yerevan, explains the reason for refusal, referring to preparations for celebrating the day of the city "Erebuni-Yerevan".

The earlier notification on holding the rally on September 17 was rejected for the same reason; the ANC, seeing political motives in these refusals, since September 8 started submitting notifications in the everyday mode.

The notification, submitted on September 8, on the rally planned for September 24, was rejected on September 9. The opposition is going to submit a notification about holding the rally on September 28, and so on - every day. This is the way the ANC carries out its earlier announced intention of "winning back" the Freedom Square.

When asked about his attitude to the statements of the opposition that the decision to ban the rally in Freedom Square was political and made personally by President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Mr Bagdasaryan answered: "My direct instructor is the law," Radio Liberty reports.
