In Armenia, court rejects AANM's claim against ban of rally in Freedom Square

On September 7, the Administrative Court of Armenia has rejected the claim lodged by the Armenian All-National Movement (AANM) - a unit of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) - with a demand to nullify the decision of the plenipotentiary of the mayoralty of Yerevan of September 1 to ban the rally of the opposition, which was to be held on September 17 in Freedom Square.

Let us remind you that by having forbidden the oppositional rally in Freedom Square on September 17, the mayoralty of Yerevan offered to hold the action in the territory adjoining Matendaran. The ANC believes this decision to be "obviously illegal".

Advocate Vage Ovsepyan, who represented the claimant's interests at the trial, said, well before the court's verdict, that he "has no hopes."

To the question why then they went to court, the lawyer answered: "If lawlessness remains without appeal it will give room to further lawlessness in the future."

After announcement of the court decision, Mr Ovsepyan said that they would go to higher judicial instances. "We'll appeal against this decision at the Cassation Court," Radio Liberty quotes Mr Ovsepyan as saying.

He promised to file a complaint against the decision of the Administrative Court within a month, the "Panorama.am" reports.
