Beslan opens a boarding school built within international project
Today, a boarding school with sporting specialization, built under the joint project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania (RNO-A) with support of the governments of the Kingdom of Norway and the Greek Republic was opened in Beslan.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the school was named after Ivan Kanidi, the physical culture teacher at Beslan School No. 1, who perished in the terror act on September 3, 2004. The new boarding school will be home for 200 children, mainly from needy and large families. Ivan Kanidi's son Konstantin was appointed director of the new boarding school.
The opening ceremony of the boarding school was attended by Espen Bart Eide, Secretary of State of Norway; Mikhail Spinelis, Ambassador Plenipotentiary of Greece in Russia; and Frode Mauring, Permanent Representative of the UNDP in the Russian Federation, who arrived in the republic right for the purpose, and Head of North Ossetia Taimuraz Mamsurov.
