Protests against gay parade in Batumi

In the city of Batumi, Georgia, an action of opponents of the gay parade is held. The organizers of the protest action are the parishioners of the St Barbara Church, who call the local authorities to take into account the statement of the Patriarchy of Georgia and not to admit the gay parade in an Orthodox country. The city mayoralty says that they know nothing about the organizers, place and time of the gay parade.

According to the information of the participants of the protest action, the gay parade in Batumi is planned for today.

The opponents of the gay parade also protested yesterday, on August 25; there were several hundreds of them. The parishioners of the St Barbara Church and tourists held a march in direction of Sheraton Hotel, where, according to the protesters, the organizers and participants of the gay parade live, as the "Trend" reports. The protest action resumed today.

Meanwhile, the mayoralties of Tbilisi and Batumi state that they have received no applications on holding the gay parade in these cities. "Such parade will not be held in Batumi," the press service of the city mayoralty has added, the "News-Georgia" Agency writes.
