Tbilisi: street traders create their professional league
The aim of the new league will be to fight for cancellation of the street trade ban.
"To have the street trade ban cancelled, the league will use all the methods permissible within the bounds of the Constitution. We'll hold protest actions and file respective applications to the Sacrebulo (local government body), Public Prosecutor's Office and Parliament," Lasha Chkhartishvili, one of the leaders of the oppositional Conservative Party of Georgia, who helped to create the league, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, street traders categorically refuse to switch over to organized marketplaces, as the tax per place is too high there – from 5 to 10 laris (2.8-5.6 US dollars).
"Earlier, they paid no tax at all; now, they agree to pay one-two laris (0.5-1 US dollar), but provided this money goes to state budget not to someone's pocket," Mr Chkhartishvili has added.
