Ancient fresco found in Georgian monastery

A fresco of the 11th century, depicting, supposedly, Tsar David Agmashenebeli (David the Builder), was found in the cathedral church of the Georgian monastery Alaverdi. This was reported by Nika Vacheishvili, head of the Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia.

According to his story, if the fact is confirmed that the fresco really depicts Tsar David Agmashenebeli, it will be his second or third image in a fresco in Georgian art. Now the finding is studied by experts, the "Echo of the Caucasus" Radio reports.

Georgia has one fresco, surely depicting David Agmashenebeli, - in the Gelat monastery complex. There is one more in Bochorma, but experts are not confident yet that it is the image of David the Builder.
