Ingush authorities decide not to toughen public norms during Ramadan

Ingushetia has not entered any strict rules at the public level with the start of the sacred Moslem month of Ramadan.

"Nothing similar to what is done in Chechnya happens during Ramadan in Ingushetia. Institutions of public catering are open, but few people go there in the daytime, as people hold fasting," Vakha Chapanov, head of the Ingush News Agency "Maximum" told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"To hold fasting or not, is one's personal matter. There are people who can't do it because of health problems. Alcohol is not on sale officially in the republic for more than two years, but cigarettes can be bought freely," Mr Chapanov has noted.
