25 WNE patients in Volgograd Region already
In the Volgograd Region, 25 persons are sick with the West Nile Encephalitis (WNE). Most of them are residents of Volgograd and Volzhski. The probability of an outbreak grows because of abnormally hot weather.
"The WNE morbidity is stronger day after day in the Volgograd Region," Anatoly Lipnitsky, Doctor of Medicine, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"In cities, population density is high; accordingly, chances of virus transfer by its carriers - mosquitoes - are higher here. High air temperature and low humidity promote WNE virus replication in mosquitoes; thus, infection probability goes up," explained the doctor.
Doctor Lipnitsky said that the WNE virus is brought to the region by birds of passage. Then, it gets into ticks and mosquitoes - from there it gets into human blood.
