Prices for some bread sorts have almost doubled in Volgograd, while other bakery products are now more expensive by 20-30 percent. The city mayor has addressed the governor of the region asking him to promptly remedy the situation.
In his letter to Governor Anatoly Brovko, Roman Grebennikov, Mayor of Volgograd, wrote that within this summer flour prices at the mills of the Volgograd Region went up essentially. Thus, the price growth on premium grade wheat flour made 20-100 percent, on grade 1 wheat flour - 26-76 percent, on medium rye flour - 35-56 percent, and on pure white rye flour - 27-33 percent.
"I hereby ask you to draft and take steps to prevent an avalanche rise in prices on flour, bread and bakery products," runs the mayor's letter to the governor.
