Five of Moscow Balkar hunger-strikers hospitalized
Five persons from among the Balkars who continue their hunger-strike in Moscow were taken to hospital, but the rest of the group continues the hunger-strike in the Manezh Square. The protest action lasts for 36 days already, Muradin Rakhaev, leader of the group, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, the remaining five hunger-strikers are going to stay in Moscow, until either President or Premier pay their attention to the petition about the land problem in Kabardino-Balkaria.
"As of today, not a single Balkar village has a hectare of land. Forests are the republic's property, while lands of especially protected territories and reserves are the federal property. Restrictions connected with the frontier zone, where one can't get even to take his cattle back home without passport, are also an obstacle," said Mr Rakhaev.
He rejects statements that they had dated their protest action to reappointment of the republic's president: "Our people hold rallies since 2005; we wanted to hold a rally in Moscow already last November; however, Russian President's officials promised to settle all our problems by this February, but they did nothing."
