Armenia holds action dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Peace Treaty of Sevres
On August 10, in Yerevan, a march was held dated to the 90th anniversary of the Peace Treaty of Sevres, under which Armenia should have been given the territory, which was under Turkey's jurisdiction.
The participants of the march, with tricolour flags and maps of the territories corresponding to the Peace Treaty of Sevres in hands, have handed over their letters to Embassies of Italy, France and the USA, the "Armenia Today" reports.
Armen Mkrtchyan, the initiator of the action and a member of the central committee of the "Aiazgn" Youth Community, said: "On this very day 90 years ago the delegate from Turkey signed the Treaty of Sevres, having recognized the territorial integrity of Armenia in the part of our historical homeland. We believe that the Treaty signed due to objectivity of great powers won't stay on paper and will be put into effect."
According to the Peace Treaty of Sevres between Turkey and countries-winners of World War I, signed on August 10, 1920, the Turkish Empire was forced to recognize Armenia as "a free and independent state."
Under the arbitration decision of US President Woodrow Wilson (of November 22, 1920), Armenia included almost the whole Erzurum Vilayet, two thirds of the Van and Bitlis Vilayets and most of the Trebizond Vilayet. The port of Trebizond was to become Armenian. Thus, Armenia should have received access to the Black Sea. The united Armenia would have covered the territory of 160,000 square kilometres instead of the present 29,000.
