Karachai-Circassia to chop wood around settlements to prevent fires
As reported by Anna Lyzina, press secretary of the FSB Department for Karachai-Circassia, it was decided to take preventive measures against fires near dwelling settlements and crucial and potentially hazardous objects.
"As decided on August 4 at a regular sitting of the antiterrorist commission of Karachai-Circassia, off-schedule felling will be undertaken of large forests located in immediate vicinities from dwelling settlements and crucial and potentially hazardous objects; and isolation bands will be created," said Ms Lyzina.
According to her story, this work is recommended to administration heads of the Zelenchuk, Urup and Karachai Districts of the republic, jointly with Chief Department of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies for Karachai-Circassia, the "Interfax" writes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that because of adverse weather conditions - long-term heat and absence of rains - mass forest fires have spread over many Russian regions. Thus, smoke from the forest fire in 7 hectares of the Denezhny Isle in the Volga River has covered the Tsentralny and Krasnooktiabrskiy Districts of Volgograd; before, the Volgograd Region already lost dozens of forest hectares.
High fire danger was registered in the territory of the Rostov Region; since July 31 special anti-fire regime was introduced there. Because of up to 40-degree heat, since August 4 the special anti-fire regime was introduced also in the Krasnodar Territory. An emergency warning because of high risks of fires because of extremely hot air was also announced by the Ministry for Emergencies of Chechnya.
