Georgian NGOs stand against "hate speech"
In Georgia, a working group will be set up to fight against the "hate speech". This was decided today during a joint working meeting of the public movement "Multinational Georgia" with the local NGOs.
The aim of the working group is to lobby amendments to Article 142' of the Criminal Code towards tougher responsibility of state officials for using "hate speech".
According to Giorgi Gotsiridze, representative of the Association of Young Lawyers, the topicality of the issue appeared after the recent statement of President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili. "The statement showed us that the Georgian legislation has serious problems in this respect. We've set up working groups to promote amendments to Article 142' of the Criminal Code, which assumes responsibility for using hate speech," the "Georgia Online" quotes Mr Gotsiridze as saying.
