Ilyumzhinov not to stay head of Kalmykia for his fifth term
The head of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov will apply to Dmitri Medvedev not to consider his candidature at appointing a new head of the republic. His application will be satisfied by the Kremlin upon expiry of his term in October 2010.
Ilyumzhinov has been unchangeable as the head of the Republic of Kalmykia since 1993.
According to a source of the "Gazeta.Ru", Ilyumzhinov can hardly leave his successor, as he doesn't have one. "There (in Kalmykia) he has nobody, and he replaces his prime ministers all the time," said the source and added that among residents of other Russian regions there are not so many volunteers to govern the region because of its economic backwardness.
No comments of Ilyumzhinov or his representatives are available. Last week a source from his retinue said that he was on vacations in Peru.
