North Ossetia: militiaman sentenced to 18 years in colony for murdering mayor of Vladikavkaz

Rafael Kallagov, ex-employee of the UBOP (Department for Fighting Organized Crime) of the MIA of North Ossetia, was sentenced by the Supreme Court of the republic to 18 years of imprisonment in a high security colony. He was accused of committing a number of resonant murders as a member of a criminal grouping, including the murder of Vitaly Karaev, former mayor of Vladikavkaz.

Kallagov was accused of providing, while being an employee of the UBOP of the MIA of North Ossetia, information to the criminal grouping headed by Oleg Gagiev about the operations conducted by the militia, sheltered the gang and delivered firearms and transport facilities.

Besides, as established by the investigation, in the period from October to December 2008, Kallagov murdered, jointly with other members of the grouping, Vitaly Cheldiev, head of the first division of the criminal search department of the local MIA, and his son, Vitaly Karaev, head of the administration of local self-government of Vladikavkaz, and Kazbek Pagiev, former deputy chairman of the government of the republic, and his driver.

Now, the Supreme Court of the republic is considering cases of two other participants of the grouping, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The ITAR-TASS adds that Kallagov's case was considered in the special order, as he pled guilty and concluded the so-called "deal with the justice".
