Commemoration of assassinated journalist Guseinov held in Baku
Today in Baku, adherents of the freedom of speech and activists of democratic public of Azerbaijan commemorated Elmar Guseinov, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Monitor", who was killed on March 2, 2005; on July 17 he would have been 43.
"By tradition, everyone who sticks to the freedom of speech comes on July 17 to the grave of the editor to express gratitude to Elmar," said Shakhbaz Khuduoglu, founder of the publishing house "Ganun" (Law).
The Elmar Guseinov's co-thinkers who spoke at the improvised rally noted his role in the history of modern Azerbaijani journalism and development of free-thinking in Azerbaijan.
Isa Gambar, chairman of the "Musavat" Party thanked Sabir Guseinov, late journalist's father "for his great son, a figure for the Azerbaijani nation."
In his turn, Sabir Guseinov thanked everyone who remembers and commemorates his son and expressed confidence that "the day will come when Elmar's killers will incur their deserved punishment for the barbarous crime."
