Armenia: access to Internet restored, new failures not excluded
Today, repairs of the damaged fibre-optical cable are over, and Armenia's access to the Internet is restored; however, experts do not exclude that new failures are possible within the next few days because of adverse weather conditions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from evening on July 8 Armenia was partially disconnected from the Internet. Initially, local experts said that Georgian specialists were guilty, who had early repeatedly interrupted Internet communication in the Armenian territory. Later, it became clear that the reason was in a break of the fibre-optical cable that happened in the afternoon as a result of a strong flood in Romania.
As reported by Mikhail Balayan, press secretary of the telecommunication company "Fibernet Communications", as of today the cable repairs are over; however the company continues to provide the Internet communication via a backup channel, the "Panorama.am" reports.
