Abkhazia militia and Russian border guards claim not taking part in shooting at Georgian territory

Abkhazia denies having taken part in the shooting at the post in Ganmukhuri on the Georgian bank of the river Ingur, which resulted, according to Georgian media, in wounding one policeman.

For reference, Georgian TV channels reported that a policeman had been wounded as a result of the shooting. Georgian media claim that the shooting was conducted from the direction of the village of Otobaya, Gal district, Abkhazia, and lasted about 10 minutes. According to the Georgian party information, the shooting was conducted from arms of different caliber, a pilotless aircraft was noticed in the incident area, which subsequently escaped to the Abkhazia territory.

Vadim Gvindzhia, chief of Gal district department of internal affairs, said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the Abkhazia agencies working in the near-border Gal district had nothing to do with the incident on the adjoining territory. Gvindzhia also renounced the information about a pilotless plane.

The press service of Russian FSS border guard department in Abkhazia has denounced the information on the shooting at the Georgian territory from the Abkhazia bank of the river Ingur separating Abkhazia and Georgia.

According to Vasili Malaev, chief of the press service, a Russian border post is located in the settlement of Otobaya in Gal district, Abkhazia. "Between 3 and 4 a.m., Moscow time, the border guards heard shooting and bangs from the adjoining Georgian territory. The shooting took place on their territory, this is where they should look for the shooters", said Malaev.
