Human rights activists submit complaint to the European Court on torture of Chechen Ganaev
The Inter-regional Committee against Torture has filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights on the torture of Amur Ganaev, resident of Chechnya, who was detained by Chechnya operational service officers in January 2006 and brought to the ОRB-2 (criminal investigation bureau).
According to Amur Ganaev, he was forced under torture to confess commission of several crimes, as well as illegal acquisition and storage of arms.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that Chechen Supreme Court, when considering the case of Ganaev, also doubted the investigator's conclusion, refused to initiate a case and did not consider Ganaev's evidence.
Special studies conducted by forensic experts have confirmed the fact of appearance of bodily injuries when Ganaev was held in custody.
The regional office of the Committee against Torture states that they have conducted a public investigation on the case of Ganaev and established the fact of violation of the international convention articles "on the prohibition of torture" and the "right to effective remedy".
