All-Russian exhibition of breeder sheep opened in Kalmykia

On May 24, first participants of the 12th all-Russian exhibition of breeder sheep to be solemnly opened on May 28 arrived in Elista, the capital of Kalmykia. Delegations from Dagestan, Karachai-Circassia, Rostov Region and Tatarstan have already brought their best animals to the destination.

"The exhibition will be attended by about 90 breeding farms from fourteen regions of the Russian Federation," said Tseden Tyurbeev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Kalmykia. "It will present over twenty breeds of sheep and goats, and products of sheep breeding - wool, mutton, and products from fur hair, karakul, sheepskins and wool. Breeding livestock will be offered for sale. Also the companies, which supply the farms with equipment, veterinary preparations, wool-cutting appliances and other tools, will be presented."

According to Dordzhi Badmaev, Minister of Agriculture of Kalmykia, sheep breeding takes a special place in this republic. Based on the global development trends of the branch, Kalmykia is now addressing the problem of a better use of mutton; since more and more attention is given to increase of mutton. It is supposed that in the coming three-five years number the sheep herd in Kalmykia will grow up to 2.5 millions animals.
