Defence yet to decide whether to appeal against court judgment on Farid Babaev murder
Attorneys of Rasil Mamedrizaev who was sentenced today for the murder of the leader of the Dagestan branch of the "Yabloko" Party Farid Babaev have not decided yet whether to appeal against judgment of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, said advocate Suleiman Azuev.
Let us note that under the decision of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, Rasil Mamedrizaev was sentenced to 15 year of imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony. On 21 May, the jurymen found Rasil Mamedrizaev guilty, however, having asked for indulgence for him. Seferali Sefimirzoev, accused of complicity, was acquitted by the jury award.
As stated today by Judge Zakir Israfilov, the court could not prove any circumstances extenuating the defendant. "The judgment was passed with regard to the jury verdict of 21 May, where they recommended leniency for Mamedrizaev", the judge said.
Farid Babaev's brother Arthur Babaev argues he disagrees with the fact that the jury acquitted Seferali Sefimirzoev, second convict accused of complicity in the murder. However, he did not say whether the prosecution would appeal the verdict or not.
Rasil Mamedrizaev took the judge's decision calmly and was immediately taken from the courtroom after sentencing", a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" reports.
