"Yeni Musavat" can address Ilkham Aliyev

Baku's executive power head Gajibala Abutalybov addressed the letter to Musavat party leader Isa Gambar in which he demanded that the party left its headquarters at the address: 3 Prospect Azerbaijan before November 1, 2003. The letter says the ground for such a decision lies in the fact that the present headquarters of the Musavat party is located in the architectural and historic building, which can not be leased.

The editorial office of the "Yeni Musavat" newspaper is in the same building. Editor-in-chief of the newspaper Rauf Arifoglu stressed this action was regarded as a link in the chain of the authorities' repressions against the opposition democratic camp.

Rauf Arifoglu noted that the "Yeni Musavat" newspaper could address directly Ilkham Aliyev to settle the problem.

In his turn, while giving comments on the mayor's letter, Musavat leader Isa Gambar said the demand of Gajibala Abutalybov was illogical since the HQ of the leading Yeni Azerbaijan party, as well as offices of many other organizations, are situated in architectural and historic buildings. So it can not be a ground for the party's resettlement.

"We are going to defend our rights by legal means," declared Isa Gambar. According to him, information about repressions used by the authorities against parties will be brought to the attention of international organizations. Isa Gambar thinks that the authorities are trying to hamper the party's activity in such a way.
