Georgia celebrates its Independence Day today

Today, in Georgia' capital city, there were staged the military parade timed to the main national holiday - Georgia's Independence Day.  The parade was taken by Commander in Chief, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili.

Thousands of military men, land fighting vehicles and aviation took part in this parade. Georgian military men appeared in a new uniform. Family members of tragically died Polish President Lech Kachynski attended the parade.

"On the Heroes Square, there will be erected the highest monument in Georgia - "Tower of Heroes", a metal structure 48 meters in height with acrylic prisms and engraved on them 3500 names of those who died for Georgia's independence and integrity",  "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.

In Vake Park of Tbilisi, the veterans are celebrating the Independence Day. Leaders of the opposition parties have also come there. The culmination of celebrations in honor of Independence Day in the capital city will be the concert in the historic part of Tbilisi - Rica. Many popular Georgian singers will participate in the concert which ends with the performance of the legendary German group Boney M.

  • Defenders of Krasnodar embankment are outraged by fines

    Vitaly Cherkasov, an activist, and Alexander Safronov, a member of the Krasnodar City Duma, continue collecting signatures against the construction of a temple on the embankment and intend to appeal against the fines imposed on them.
