Schoolchildren in Chechnya to study Koran at special courses

During summer school vacations Chechen mosques plan to open classes for reading the Koran. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it at the republic's Muftiat.

"All the schoolchildren aged 7 and up will have an opportunity - during their summer vacations - to learn to read the Sacred Koran. The classes will be opened in all 460 mosques, presently operating in the republic. These classes will be held within the presidential programme of spiritual-and-moral education of new generations," a Muftiat employee said.

According to his story, in the end of August this year the results of training to the Koran will be summed up. Best pupils will receive gifts and prizes.

"It'll be my pleasure to send my son to the mosque to study reading the Koran. It's a very good and godly initiative," said Said-Emin Isaev, a local resident.

"If instead of aimlessly lounging around our kids will get a chance to learn to read the Koran, it can only be welcomed," Markha Suleimanova, another local, supports him.
