"Geopolitical Atlas of the Caucasus" published

On April 29, Jean Radvani, head of the Moscow-based French-Russian Centre of Social and Humanitarian Sciences, presented the book "Geopolitical Atlas of the Caucasus". The presentation of the new edition took place at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences during the seminar on ethnography of the Caucasus.

The book was published in Paris in the French language; therefore, so far the Radvani Atlas is inaccessible to the broad Russian public.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Irina Babich, a leading scientific worker of the Division of the Caucasus of the above Institute, that Russia "practically has no modern mapping of the Caucasus"; therefore, the Radvani Atlas is of "huge value" for scientists.

The scientist explained the absence of high-quality modern atlases by the current "vacuum" in Russia in the field of cartography, because of "a failure in succession of generations."

Dmitri Anchibadze, a leading worker of the same Division, also noted an increased interest in Europe to Caucasian topicality. The scientist is sure that the Radvani Atlas in its Russian-speaking version will be of high demand in Russia.

Larissa Tsvizhba, candidate of historical sciences, did not take the risk to forecast that Radvani's work will be a success in the Caucasian regions. "Some people may dislike that the Atlas disregards their territorial claims," she explained.
