Georgia: lawyers demand criminal prosecution of policemen
Georgian lawyers have addressed the Prosecutor's Office asking to open a criminal case against the policemen, had not allowed the protesting lawyers to set up their tents in front of the Parliament building. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from lawyer Vakhtang Gagnidze, one of the protesters.
"Actions of the policemen were a plunder, on the one hand, as they confiscated our tent, and abuse of service powers, on the other hand, as we had a Mayoralty's permit to hold the action, and all our actions were lawful. The legislation does not forbid erecting a tent at the distance of 20 meters and more from state agencies," he said.
The action of lawyers who protest against the electoral legislation in front of the building of the country's supreme legislative body is attended by up to ten persons. "Now, it's very hot in Tbilisi, and we decided not to torture ourselves in the course of the action - every day we spend four hours in front of the Parliament - from 2 to 6 p.m. Only oppositional MPs showed interest to our action; they came to us and got acquainted with our demands," another protester - Nugzar Nachkebiya - told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
