Armenia starts international comic strips festival
From May 14 on, in capital of Armenia has launched the Second International Festival of Comic Strips. Their cartoon stories are presented by 20 well-known masters from France, Italy, Russia and the United States.
Among the comics presented at the Festival are the works of Armenian artists Frunze Kandilyan, Arthur Tevosyan, Frenchmen Jean-Blez Dzhian, Nicolas Bgashet, Italian Paolo Cossi and other authors.
Special attention of the visitors at the exhibition, opened under the Festival, was attracted by the series of comics "Armenians' Genocide" by the Italian artist Paolo Cossi. "In Italy, not everyone knows about the genocide of Armenians. Meanwhile, it was the first genocide of the 20th century, and I decided to show those terrible events to people in the form of a comic strip," said Mr Cossi.
Within the Festival of comics, which will last till May 16, exhibitions, book presentations, shows of cartoon films and master classes are planned. Also, a possibility will be considered to open a school of comics in Armenia, as Ms Asmik Pogosyan, Minister of Culture of Armenia, has stated.
